ABIGAIL’S Fair WARNING To Players Out There In ‘TRAPS’

Her name may not be out much in the Malaysian music scene, but for this pretty songbird, 22-year-old musical prodigy from Kuala Lumpur, Abigail Chew or simply known as Abigail, the COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t dampened her nor her ambitions.

“With the pandemic vibing like Katy Pery's Hot and Cold, releasing music was extremely difficult. With productions being delayed, studio sessions being unlikely to happen, everything was just in a mess. But rest assured, music will be out and flowing constantly, hopefully,” she says.

Now, she’s back with her much-anticipated second single ‘Traps’, written by her and co-composed with Malaysian up-and-coming rapper genius, Lil J, and produced by uber entertainment label, Rocketfuel Entertainment.

“I have a thing for writing my own songs and melodies. I just took a ‘type beat’, flowed with it, and absolutely loved the outcome.

“To be honest, I started (in music) really young, performing at various school and outside events. I remember the spotlight and how much I loved being in it, it was always something I wanted to pursue and being able to live that dream is amazing!

“I just wanna thank Rocketfuel for giving me the freedom to put out music that I want and not just what I need, and hopefully I'll be able to flourish in this direction with my artistic confidence,” she adds.

According to the third-year psychology undergraduate, the pandemic has opened her eyes on many things, especially music.

“I’ve always loved the idea of experimenting with different genres of music ever since I’m a teenager, even then I've written tons of music about all walks of life, much like my first single Status Quo which heavily talked about mental health issues such as depression,” she explains.

In her latest single, she delves into the topic of relationships, and being involved with a ‘player’.

Traps is definitely a song a lot of people would be able to relate to. It's your typical playboy, playgirl anthem where there is desire to want the ones that you can't have or the ones that seem 'unattainable'.

“Imagine someone being picture-perfect and then dropping you in an instant, or someone luring you into their Traps and yet somehow manages to put the blame all on you,” she says.

At first listen, the catchy pop number is laced with an element of mystery yet boppy that makes listeners wanting for more, while the rap verse by Lil J adds another layer of flavourful dimension in Traps.

“I felt that there was something missing, so I asked Lil J to hop on the bandwagon to give it even more dimension and flavor. He wrote an absolute killer verse, and here we are!

“The recording session was actually super fast, with our main session only taking less than two hours at MFMF Studio, which is honestly a place I can truly be comfortable with my voice and the vibe seems to hit all the right spots,” she adds.

Describing her current sound as fun, contextual and depressing at times, Abigail definitely wears her art on her sleeves,

“It really depends on what song I decide to produce. It's either really happy, really sad, or just plain up angry. There is never an ‘in-between’, just like my mood swings.

Mr. Erick Yew, as the new Head of Label & Publishing, Rocketfuel Entertainment commented: “Abigail is our young and rising star who’s extremely talented and just bursting with creative ideas. We give her the absolute freedom on how she wants to craft her music because we believe in her talent.

“I’m confident that the younger generation will enjoy Traps because of the ‘current’ vibe it has to attract listeners whilst garnering more attention for Abigail herself.

Music is a universal language and for every musical piece made, the right formula is ‘key’ to reach the heart of listeners, Abigail concludes: “I just wanna keep making my own music to be honest. I have so many that I want to share with everyone and so many people that I really wanna work with.

“And my hopes for Traps are that people can relate and sing along to it. I wish for it to be an ‘angry’ anthem for anyone who’s been played so they can vent and shout it out. Lastly, I wish everyone can fall into my ‘trap’ of a song.

Traps’ is available for download on iTunes and as a caller ringtone from all major telecommunication service providers, and could easily be streamed and enjoyed 24/7 through various music-streaming portals such as Joox, KKBox, Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music and also YouTube Music.

While the lyrics video is available for viewing exclusively on the Rocketfuel Network YouTube channel.
